Attack of the Cedar Waxwings |
A flock of over 80 Cedar Waxwings (assisted by a few American Robins) totally stripped a holly tree of its berries within an hour. They then proceeded to pickup and eat every berry that had fallen to the ground. Holly berries don't really become edible for birds until they have been through several freeze/defrost cycles.
The Patuxent Wildlife Research Center maintains a bird identification database -
information on the Cedar Waxwing is given here: http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/i6190id.html
